I have to talk about something real quick- it concerns my job which I rarely write about because I know it's probably boring as shit to most people (including me) but I have to put this out there.

I work at a hotel and this hotel happens to cater to a lot of families. We have the indoor pool area, arcade, basketball court, etc. and this means that on weekends we get a lot of kids around. And can I just say I have NEVER witnessed so many children running around unsupervised. I'm not talking about pre-teen adolescents, I'm talking about children 6,7,8... sometimes younger turning the hotel into a full blown daycare. Minus the care part.

Anyway, I've worked here for over 5 years, so it doesn't shock me anymore, nope not at all, it pisses me off. Yes, I turn into a babysitter at times, and although this is extremely annoying, I can deal. What gets me is the parents sitting around bullshitting and chugging booze and not giving a flying fuck what their kids are doing in a VERY public place. A public place with a lot of people. Creepy people. People who may not look creepy, but very well could be. I mean, has the media not brought pedophilia to our attention often enough? How about kidnapping? No? Turn on a fucking TV, you so-called parents. Read any newspaper or magazine.

I try to comfort myself by thinking that maybe the parents just don't know any better. But, would they leave their small children unattended at an amusement park? A water park? A movie theater? A grocery store? A concert? Probably a big NO to all those. But a hotel? With other families, a friendly atmosphere, a place to rest their weary heads? Sure, why the hell not? I don't see why they think this place is any safer than anywhere else, but I see it constantly. Just as often, I've dealt with very sketchy people, scary people, downright terrifying people, all within the walls of this building where their precious brats are running around by themselves screaming and knocking on doors.

On a related note, I really love when people stuff pool towels into the door jams that lead to the pool area, so the door can't close all the way, and maybe one of these kids can wander in and drown. Wouldn't that be nice? I mean, who would want to take the extra 5 seconds it takes to use your keycard to unlock the door? Laziness and ignorance equals dangerous shit.

Moral of the rant: If you stay at a hotel with your kids, watch them! They are no safer here than anywhere else in this fucked up world. You're responsible for them, newsflash douches.
